SIMI Swiss Proudly Continues to Support SCEPT 2027: Advancing Research in Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation
Swiss Information and Management Institute (SIMI Swiss) is proud to continue its support for the 7th International Conference on Smart City Engineering and Public Transportation (SCEPT 2027), an international academic platform connecting researchers, engineers, universities, research institutions and industry professionals in the rapidly evolving fields of smart cities and intelligent transportation.
SCEPT 2027 will be held in Beijing, China, from 26 to 28 March 2027, following six previous editions of the conference. The event is designed to facilitate international academic exchange and the sharing of research findings, technological developments and engineering practices related to smart transportation and urban digital transformation.
For SCEPT 2027, SIMI Swiss is officially listed as a supporting institution alongside Chongqing Jiaotong University, further strengthening the conference’s connection with international academic and transportation-related research communities. The conference is co-organised by the Smart City Research Centre of Renmin University of China and the Specialized Committee on Digital Intelligence Integration of the World Association of Young Scientists.
From Smart Transportation to the Cities of the Future
SCEPT 2027 focuses on two interconnected areas: Smart Transportation and Smart City.
The Smart Transportation research track covers areas including traffic big data, Intelligent Transportation Systems, advanced traffic management, autonomous driving, Internet of Things applications, traffic forecasting and optimisation, road safety technologies, intelligent parking, satellite navigation and integrated sea-land-air transportation systems.
The Smart City track extends this research landscape into vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, connected and automated mobility, cloud computing, IoT, deep learning, intelligent environmental modelling, computational modelling, mobile computing, new-energy transportation and digitally enabled urban environments.
These themes reflect the increasing convergence of information technology, engineering, management and urban systems. Cities are no longer viewed simply as physical infrastructure; they are becoming interconnected ecosystems in which data, artificial intelligence, transportation, energy, infrastructure and human decision-making operate together.
This interdisciplinary environment is also closely aligned with SIMI Swiss’s commitment to advancing research and international academic exchange at the intersection of Information and Management.
More Than a Conference: A Platform for Academic Publication
One of the important academic values of SCEPT is that participation can extend beyond presenting research at an international conference.
Research papers submitted to SCEPT 2027 undergo an academic review process. According to the conference’s editorial policy, submissions are first checked for academic integrity and relevance before proceeding to double-blind peer review, with selected manuscripts reviewed by at least two or three independent expert reviewers for originality, validity, academic quality and readability. Authors may subsequently be required to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers’ comments before a final publication decision is made.
For researchers, this process is valuable because it places their work within a structured academic environment in which research is evaluated, challenged and improved before publication.
Publication through SAE Technical Papers
According to SCEPT 2027, accepted papers are planned for publication in SAE Technical Papers (ISSN: 0148-7191)as part of the Conference Proceedings, with the papers subsequently submitted to EI Compendex and Scopus for indexing.
SAE International is a globally established professional organisation serving the mobility and engineering sectors. SAE describes its Technical Papers as peer-reviewed contributions written by specialists in areas including automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicle engineering, covering current developments in technical research and applied engineering.
SAE further confirms that its Technical Papers are included in major international discovery and abstracting/indexing services, including Elsevier’s Engineering Village – Compendex and Scopus. SAE Technical Papers are also registered with Crossref, enabling formal Digital Object Identifier (DOI) identification for scholarly and professional publications.
For researchers, publication through this route can therefore offer several important benefits:

Publication through an established technical publishing platform makes research more accessible to academics, engineers and practitioners internationally.
Discoverability through major academic databases.
Visibility through databases such as Scopus and EI Compendex can make research easier to identify through literature searches and potentially increase its use and citation by other researchers.

Publication with formal bibliographic information and DOI identification allows research outputs to become part of the international scholarly record and facilitates consistent citation and referencing.

Indexing by individual databases ultimately remains subject to the policies and processing of the relevant indexing services; therefore, SCEPT appropriately states that accepted papers will be submitted to EI Compendex and Scopus for indexing, rather than presenting indexing as an unconditional guarantee.
Continuing SIMI Swiss’s Engagement with SCEPT
SIMI Swiss’s support for SCEPT 2027 continues an established relationship with the conference.
At SCEPT 2025, Prof. Dr. Seyed Mohammadreza Ghadiri from SIMI Swiss participated as one of the conference’s keynote speakers, contributing to academic discussions surrounding smart transportation, urban digital transformation and transportation infrastructure.
The relationship continued at SCEPT 2026, where the official conference record specifically acknowledged strong support from SIMI Swiss alongside institutions including North China University of Technology, South China University of Technology and the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Technology and System of the Ministry of Education. The 2026 conference brought together researchers working across smart transportation, urban engineering, artificial intelligence, low-altitude economy, infrastructure monitoring, green logistics and related emerging areas.
For SCEPT 2027, SIMI Swiss once again appears among the official supporting institutions, this time alongside Chongqing Jiaotong University.
This continued engagement reflects SIMI Swiss’s broader commitment to supporting international research communities, fostering academic exchange and creating connections between researchers, institutions and emerging areas of knowledge.
